Rachael Finch Shares her Wellness Secrets

Rachael Finch has come a long way since first appearing on our television screens as Miss Universe Australia, back in 2009. The model and TV presenter has since built a reputation as a respected regular on the Australian small screen, as well as revealing she is a talented dancer and home cook. Now a Certified Health Coach (joining Sarah Wilson and others), Finch is also expanding her reach into the wellness arena, inspiring guests to Stay Well as the newest Westin Well-being Advocate.

I have written about my own experience Staying Well thanks to The Westin’s healthy living philosophy, here, here and here. As a Westin Well-being Advocate Rachael Finch is sharing her own tips for promoting that holistic approach to wellness both while travelling and at home:

Rachael’s Non-Negotiables for a Healthy Life

  • I always make time to maintain my fitness. I love skipping as a cardio workout because it’s easy to do indoors and tones your entire body from thighs, butt, calves, shins, arms to stomach.
  • I also think it’s important to make the effort to schedule things that will fill you with happiness. For me, this is playing with my daughter Violet, getting a massage or playing my favourite music.
  • Lastly, you should always make a conscious effort to treat yourself. After a particularly long day at work or when you’ve hit your goals, go for a massage or go for a movie.

How to Get a Better Night’s Sleep

  • Try magnesium as a natural ingredient to promote restful sleep patterns. It also calms your nerves and muscles.
  • Sip chamomile tea from about 30 minutes after dinner to before you go to bed.
  • Apply lavender oil to your pulse points to induce slumber. Studies have shown that inhaling lavender produces soothing and sedative effects.
  • Try a simple stretching session with a focus on good breathing technique before bed to prepare for sleep and don’t be tempted to use any technology after, as it will stimulate the nervous system and reverse the positive effects of your stretch.

Get Started on Your Own Wellness Journey

  • Try and get at least 7-hours of sleep a night. I do this by making time management a priority so I can get into bed earlier
  • Find a hobby you love. A little recreation daily helps balance the stress of a busy life, so find the right hobby and delight in the things you enjoy
  • Always set goals to keep yourself motivated and try to be as specific as you can
