Seminyak is known for a number of things; its stylish shopping, stunning sunsets and bustling beach bars. As a go-to for both tourists and travellers alike, budget hostels and multi-story hotels are ten-a-penny, while boutique villas offering bespoke stays are much harder to find. However, as we strive to bring you the latest and very best in international travel, we’ve set to uncover some of Bali’s best boutique stays, and recently discovered one of Seminyak’s biggest assets, a private luxury villa hotel, The Elysian.

The Elysian is nestled down a cobbled street near Seminyak’s central shopping district. On arrival, we were greeted by the staff with beaming smiles. The Balinese people are known for being some of the friendliest people in the world; a notion certainly solidified during our stay at The Elysian Bali.

Presented with a refreshing welcome drink on arrival, we were told by the smiling staff to treat our villa like a home away from home during our stay and when shown to our living quarters. We had a spacious One Bedroom Villa with a private plunge pool, lofty ceilings and a enormous shower, we knew we wouldn’t have any difficulty settling in. The villa was generous in size and stylish by design; with a large double bedroom overlooking the outside terrace, a substantial living and dining area with window seats looking out over the plunge pool, and an elegantly tiled bathroom with a sunken shower that added an extra element of luxury.

Fresh fruit and home made cookies were made ready for our check in and after five days of looming clouds, the sun had finally decided to come out, bathing our terrace and pool in an iridescent afternoon glow. Our terrace was the perfect place to while away a few hours in the sun; being both private and partly shaded so both sun-seekers or those who prefer to opt for the shade are well catered for. Situated just a stone’s throw from the spa facilities, main pool and dining area. The villa’s pivoting doors separated each section of the well mapped out space which made for a lovely touch.

A Luxury Village Feel

Aside from its friendly staff, stunning interiors and convenient location, the village-style design and feel of The Elysian is one of its best features. As the heart of the village is a generous sized communal plunge pool. Guests are welcome to use the stunning pool in the heart of the hotel, flanked by lush greens and Instagram-worthy day beds. While we spent our first afternoon in the privacy of our own villa, we spent our final day at They Elysian curled up on the day bed, enjoying the pool and the heat of the Balinese sun.  Even better is that you can get service straight to your day bed; choosing from the hotel’s colourful cocktail menu or opting for a fresh fruit juice or wheatgrass shot should you be feeling virtuous, meaning that you can recline in serious luxury without having to lift a finger.

Rush Bamboo Restaurant

The food on offer at The Elysian is both tasty and fresh and perfect for both indulgent holiday eating, or those wanting to remain healthy while on holiday. We opted for both savoury choices and sweet treats during our time there, and can report that the Eggs Benedict and Salmon Omelette at Rush Bamboo Restaurant are good enough to rival any Australian café, while the banana crepes was a satisfying treat, perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Explore Seminyak and Beyond

For the adventure seekers among us who don’t want to pass the time doing little other than lounging in the sun, the staff are more than happy to arrange any number of outings from surfing to stand-up paddle boarding and more cultural excursions. We took full advantage of the free bikes available to hotel guests and did two early morning bike rides around the local area as dawn was breaking and loved seeing the streets of Seminyak come to life while veiled in a dewy morning glow.

The Elysian villa hotel in Seminyak is the type of place that caters for all types of traveller, while still retaining a boutique and tailored offering for guests. With the friendliest of staff, spacious and stylish villas and the highly Instagrammable day beds, these boutique luxury villas will be your next best stay in Bali.
