We dropped our bags and made a beeline for the window on entering our suite at Stoneridge Mountain Resort. The view had pulled both of us to the large picture window at the end of the living area. A mountain range appeared to reach up and touch the clouds. It was incredible. At that moment, I knew we would love our new home in the Canadian Rockies, even if it was only for a few days.

We stumbled upon Stoneridge Mountain Resort when researching places to stay in Banff. A long list of glowing reviews with many enthusiastic remarks on the service and comfort of Stoneridge made our decision to stay simple.
Stoneridge Mountain Resort is in the cute village of Canmore, about 15 minutes drive from the centre of Banff. The shopping centre quickly became our local. Five minutes drive from the hotel, on the way to Banff and beyond, it’s where we picked up our morning coffee, snacks for hiking and groceries to make our evening meals back at the hotel. It became a comfortable, daily routine.

Stay at Stoneridge
Our One Bedroom King Suite was very large. There are one, two and three bedroom suites available at Stoneridge, so there is plenty of space for families and groups to settle in. As frequent travellers, we instantly feel at home in a new hotel when our belongings quickly begin to spread around the space, a book waits on the bedside table each night, washing spins in the laundry and our favourite foods sitting tempting us from the fridge. That’s exactly what our stay was like at Stoneridge. Each suite has a full sized kitchen, laundry room, a dining area, large bathroom, living room with fireplace, high speed wifi, LCD flatscreen TVs with movie channels, a balcony. The list goes on. Each is decorated in wood and soft furnishings in warm tones lending a plush but cosy, homely feel; perfect for the mountains.
We retreated to the hotel most afternoons, fresh from the mountains or seeing the sights in and around Banff. We cradled a glass of wine cooking up some dinner on the balcony barbecue (very Australian we know) and curled up on the couch by the fire during the evenings, often finding an excuse not to have to leave again until the following morning.

Nourish at Stoneridge
With a coffee machine in the suite, you will probably find you will start your day with a coffee on your balcony or on the run from a Canmore coffee shop, as we did. We often ate lunch while we were out wandering, but loved having a kitchen to prepare healthy meals from delicious local fare. We also found that after a day on the mountain, we were craving a night in and a home cooked meal. There is a big Safeway supermarket nearby and Mountain Mercato should you want something a little fancier. We also shopped at Nesters Market if we were passing through Banff, simply to try other foods.

Move at Stoneridge
Stoneridge has a well equipped fitness room that is footsteps from the heated outdoor pool and spa. The pool is located in a sun drenched central courtyard, visible from the garden view suites, making it ideal for families with active children. Crossfit Canmore is literally across the road for those people missing their local box and there is an amazing bike track that runs parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway, taking you straight into Banff in just over an hour (depending on your level of fitness). We got our exercise hiking in the mountains most days. From the Tunnel Mountain hike to other more serious hikes, we highly recommend scheduling in at least one day of wandering out in nature. Stunning scenery is right on your doorstep at Stoneridge.

Explore from Stoneridge
There is a endless list of activities on offer in Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and beyond. Stoneridge can help you prioritise your wish list during your stay. We found Banff and Lake Louise Tourism office also extremely helpful with planning our schedule and it’s also where we picked up our Park Pass (something you will need to do as soon as you get into the area). Be aware, once you learn about everything there is to see and do in this part of the world, you will most likely want to extend your stay.

Getting to Stoneridge
Stoneridge Mountain Resort is located in Canmore, Alberta. It is 60 minutes from Calgary International Airport, 15 minutes drive to Banff and 35 minutes to Lake Louise and Nakiska Ski Resort. If you have time, we recommend you take the Bow Valley Trail. It will take a little longer but the scenery on the drive is stunning.
